Training together, moving forward together

The job market in the Moerdijk Port and Industrial Area (HIM) is changing rapidly. Technological innovations, sustainability requirements, and staff shortages are creating new challenges and opportunities. But to prepare the region for the jobs of tomorrow, we need to know where the needs lie today. That's why NXT Moerdijk, Curio, and the Associate Degrees Academy are jointly launching an exploration: what do HIM companies need in terms of logistics and (process) technology training?

With this survey, we aim to gain insight into collective training needs. This allows us to build a strong and relevant training offering, not just for companies, but especially together with them, at and around the HIM. So, what are your training needs?

Go straight to the survey!

Why this research?

There are already some great examples of joint initiatives at Moerdijk, such as the NT2 language programs for international employees. The fourth round will begin in October, this time with five new classes at HIM. Companies shared their needs, NXT Moerdijk brought stakeholders together, and Curio developed a customized program. The result: more than 25 employees learned Dutch, both on-site and with familiar colleagues from the region.

With this research, we aim to achieve the same for the logistics and technology sectors. Where is the greatest demand? What learning needs do newcomers, career changers, and existing employees have? And how can we translate these into training pathways that truly work?

The power of collective training

Today, companies must adapt more quickly. Training isn't a luxury, but a strategic necessity. Yet, in practice, it often proves difficult: lack of time, fragmented supply, and high costs prevent employers from training or retraining employees. And yet, the need for up-to-date skills in logistics and technology is only increasing.

That's why NXT Moerdijk looks beyond the individual. What if we didn't all have to reinvent the wheel, but could invest in growth together? Collective training, in collaboration with other companies, training providers, and government agencies, is the way to combine speed, quality, and impact.

Because individual training is valuable, but collective training offers additional benefits. Consider:

  • Cost efficiency: shared pathways reduce training costs per participant
  • Close by: training takes place at or around the HIM, with minimal travel time and high involvement
  • Cross-pollination: employees from different companies learn together, share practical knowledge and broaden their perspectives
  • Customization: through input from multiple companies, programs are tailored to realistic, shared practical needs

It's important to emphasize that training these days doesn't mean employees have to go back to school for four years. We're actually embracing a new form of learning, one that brings education closer to the business world. Think of training programs that support work, short modules where theory can be directly applied in practice, or customized courses that address shared needs within companies. This allows multiple companies to benefit from the same advantages, as we previously saw with the NT2 program.

Participate, think along, grow along

With your input, we'll create a training infrastructure that truly connects with real-world situations. Because only when we understand what's happening on the work floor can we work together to develop learning programs that work for both companies and employees. Your answers help us better tailor our educational offerings to daily realities, focusing on current skills, logistics processes, and technical developments. We use the results to:

  • To develop new courses and modules
  • To facilitate collaborations between companies, education and government
  • To give concrete shape to the hybrid learning environment at HIM

"We can only truly provide future-proof training if we understand the challenges companies face today. This survey is key to achieving that."
